About the Bear

We wanted to talk to a ranger before sharing more about our encounter with the Bear. Karen was driving. A large male on his hind legs was sniffing the air and waited for an eastbound car to pass. Then got on all fours and ran at us. It hit the back driver’s side bumper. We heard the thud. All in 10 seconds from when we first saw it to when we collided. We held our breath. He somersaulted behind us then rose quickly and ran into the bush.
We were both upset wondering what we could have done differently. We said a prayer, sent spirit healing for the Bear.
The ranger we contacted explained that the Bear probably misjudged timing and thought it could get in front of us. He’ll report it to Bear Wise.
We have claw marks on the bumper, fresh raised paint but no blood or fur.

Today we are traveling to Turtle Lodge on Sagkeeng FN to attend the Nibi Water Ceremony. Just crossed into Manitoba. We have been listening to reports on the Truth and Reconciliation commission. As Canadians, we have much to reconcile.

Glad you are both OK after that bear encounter! OMG- that is a big animal, and it could have been really bad
Hopefully the bear too , is only shaken up
Bear claw marks on the bumper are definitely a great souvenir- not too many others can say they have that!
Nothing quite that exciting happening on our street !
Safe travels- looking forward to the next instalments!

meeting up with that bear must have been quite an experience. Did Karen pee her pants. Such stories to talk about when you come home. Take care of yourselves, Love.

Glad to hear that you’re both okay and it sounds as though the bear was too. We had a close encounter with a bear in our campsite the very first night we took our kids camping. At the time it was terrifying, but in retrospect, it felt like a blessing .

Maybe he was just kind of a dumb big bear. I hope he’s ok and back in the forest with his big bear friends. Hope you two are both ok now. What an experience though….seriously! And yes the most important thing going on in Canada now is the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, I hope all that has been said does not get forgotten. We have a duty not to let that happen.

      Hey Kim
Good to hear you. We are just in Regina now and left Turtle Lodge where we heard elders speak on recovery and rebuilding. I’ll post about that later. Hope all is well worth you and yours.

‘The bear’ seems to have taken on a prominent theme in your journey. Perhaps your spirit guide is trying to tell you something. 🙂

Great bear story with what seems like a happy ending. Love that you sent it healing. Bear medicine is powerful. The keynote is ‘awakening the power of the unconscious’. Go inside and awaken the potentials. Anyone with a bear totem should keep the cub in themselves alive and occasionally climb trees — if only to get a clear perspective.
